SPRUNG DIARIES (Chapter 2)

Deal day….
Got up in the morning, first thought that came to my mind: ….JASMINE!!. Getting to church, I was warring & bringing every thought of her unto the obedience of Christ! It was that bad, that I looked around during the sermon to see if she was in the same church I attended, at least maybe as a first timer. Jasmine seemed to occupy every bit of my mind. Eagerly was I anticipating our dinner that evening!!!….
“and we shall dwell in the house of the lord…..for-e”…cudnt wait for the rest bro,… Here we go….. I felt like the Flash..,” Run, Barry, RUN”!!!..I Sped off the auditorium, had to rush off to my lodge, rest, meet up with a friend at the other campus, and finally cap off the day with my new found jewel of inestimable value. I hurried in some flakes, rested for some 20mins, freshened up, and set out to the Ekheunwa campus. I checked my wrist every 5mins, it became to me a new reflex action. 5’0 clock is a reality…. So I thought.
Ekheunwa was a place I had never gone to before. Even back in my school days, nothing made me reach that area of town. I dunno if it was a phobia or    maybe it was just as a result of the miles far apart from where I stayed.
The clouds were getting dark. Here I was, standing at the bus park, called my friends number severally to get the directions to the campus from ring road, all I could get back was: “the number you dialed is not answering”…I can remember hearing this sound from the other side like 10times!!! ‘Where did this girl drop her phone na!!!…*argh* frustrated and grumpy, I left ring-road heading back to the Main campus. Time check; 4.30pm..
Due to the heavy down pour being the raining season, every route back was flooded, it was as if we were crawling our way back to school. The traffic was terrible, it was as tho the famous dark forces of Benin were against me meeting my sent angel. Right there I understood how the biblical character ‘Daniel’ felt when his blessing was delayed by the prince of Persia. My time was already reading, 4.47pm, yet we just got to Uselu,( the market square of Benin). “Oh no! I don’t want to give jasmine a wrong impression about me”…, just when I was still feeling bad about the tortoise kind of movement the shuttle I was in was undergoing, my phone buzzed…. It was jasmine….
She: Pls let’s make it by 5pm.. (by then, time check was 4.56pm)
Me: Ok…am on my way back from ekheunwa…see you shortly..
She: Ok.
I arrived the main gate by 5.20pm.. I couldn’t frown, neither could I laugh, here was my date night blown up in thin air. Two scenarios played out in my head.
1st one was: Should I get back to my lodge, freshen up, get my loaded accounts’ ATM card, with a touch of my irresistible Paco rabanne perfume?
2nd thought was: Or should I just call her to find out if she’s still interested in the dinner  and run right to her. (by the way, I had in my wallet my “waka about” ATM that wasn’t so loaded with cash, but had some little change accrued to the account. I also had some extra  crispy 500 naira notes that summed up to 3000 in my wallet)…. WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE???
Well, I chose the 2nd option.. Yes, the one of calling her. I summoned all the courage I could, knew she would have been disappointed at me.. But I still dialed her number all the same…
Me: Hello jasmine (lowkey)
She: Hi Chris! (gentle tone)
Me; sorry dear, I got delayed
She: No problem, where are you?
Me: At main gate….
She: Ok.. Can you come to medical hostel now so we could go together?
Me: (Considering to chip in option 1, but thought if I do it, she might cancel the date, due to the time. Time was already 5:35pm)….. Ok dear, I am coming!!!
She; alright.. * hangs up..
I entered the next available cab, and that was it…. Sped off to medical hostel. Immediately I came out of the cab (not up to 5mins from the previous call) I redialed her line.
Me; im here dear
She: Ok, where actually are you?
Me: The common-room side..
She; ok, you will see me shortly
I quickly Went in to buy yoghurt from the provision store in the C.R’.. Coming out who did I see? Yes… your guess is as good as mine….but only this time, it wasn’t Jasmine… it was my ex I dated back in year 1..
Me: ( beginning to vex for the evil forces of Benin that just wanted to spoil my day by bringing my Ex GF my way. Forcing   a smile out of my façade, I greeted)… Hi Mary! What are you doing here?
Mary: OMG!! ( with her tiny voice) Chris!!!!! (stretching her hands open to hug me)….
Me; (oh no!!! Must it be a hug?, cant she just shake my hands? When I needed the hugs and cuddles she be no gree oo) stretched my hands to receive the hug. Made sure it didn’t last up to 3 seconds.. In those split seconds all my prayer was; ” God, please don’t let jasmine catch me in another ladies arms”. Yes! I didn’t Want to send across a wrong signal of being a Casinova . As God did it, jasmine showed up…..Not during the hug tho, but after the hug. To my surprise, they both knew each other, Yes! they attended the same secondary school in Benin… UDSS!
I couldn’t recall the discussion that proceeded within the 3 of us, all I wanted was to be left alone…. With my jasmine
Our moment finally came.. We were alone.. She had that smile in her face that could melt a mountain, her eyes sparkled like diamonds in the sky. I trembled at her beauty. Being very close to her, I observed her skin, they seemed to glow….This must be a goddess, I thought. Princess Diana of wonder woman was no match to her beauty & splendor. Little did I know that jasmine was becoming an obsession, or better still an Addiction to me, but you know what they say…. “not every addiction is a bad thing”!!!
