We were seated all alone in the common room. Once again intimidated by her beauty, I started speaking gibberish. She seemed to understand my state of being, & smiled back at my squabbles. Next thing I said was,: “Jasmine, I don’t like what am wearing, you know am just heading back from ekhenuwa, im not dressed as one going for a dinner date”. ( I was on a red body hug, blue jean, a blue sweater strapped round my neck, and a Yeezy boot).
Her reply: You look good Chris, im ok with what you are wearing.
Me: Are you sure dear?, I could always rush back to change into something better?
She: No Chris, I like this! She smiled.
I had no strength left in me, when I caught a glimpse of her smile, I then understood Steve Wonders “isnt she lovely song”, her smile was divine!!. I surrendered to her will.
We came to the front of the medical hostel, hired a taxi to take us straight to palm royal hotel. Once seated in the taxi, next thing I heard was;

Driver; oga your money na #800 o.
Me: (wanting to price the amount to 5H, but felt shy to, because of jasmine) ….800?….o- ( was about to complete the ‘kay’, when jasmine interrupted our discussion)
She: ( in her eloquent, close-to-British accent) ah-han!… ‘driver, it’s 500 we are paying oh!!
Me; (Speaking along as one possessed by an evil spirit, I shouted) : YES OH!! Driver, na 5H I get!!!
Driver: OK!
Seeing how jasmine helped me ‘price’ the T-fare, I admired her originality. “Oh!, such a wife material”, God has surely seen my affliction and sent me a help meet’… All these words were still going through my thoughts when I heard her speak in a whispery but clear tone:
She; you don’t have to be shy you know?
Me; (smiling) im not dear
She: But you are acting shy…
(I was Still thinking of a defensive reply, but nothing was forth coming). As if she knew I was word empty, she came closer to me in the taxi, removed the sweater from my neck, and told me to put it on. Like a dog who was just given a bone I obliged, by wearing it hurriedly…
The taxi man having arrived at our destination packed in the garage of the hotel. After giving him a clean, crispy 500 naira note, I told jasmine to wait in the cab, (I wanted to act out a scene I saw in one of those romantic Hollywood movies). I came out from my door-side, quickly walked over to her door end, and opened it with my hands stretched out to her. Well, I don’t Know if I looked romantic, or like a chauffeur, but I think she got the big picture at the end, being : She meant the world to me!
